When a vessel is in need of an Annual Performance Test (APT) on a Consilium VDR/S-VDR, it is recommended that the crew completes an APT request form and goes through a short Pre-survey check list in order to verify the VDR/S-VDR system status.

The annual testing of VDR/S-VDR is required by SOLAS regulation V/20.
