Ambient Oil Mist Detector Salwico G2000

The open path beam monitor detect and alert at the presence of oil mist, created by leaking tubes and hoses by means of an light emitting unit and receiver. Received signals are sent to the analyser by fibre optic cable.

Hot surface ignition of leaking and spraying fuel or hydraulic oil is only second to galley fires the most common reason for shipboard explosions.

The G2000 Ambient Oil Mist Detector is one of few OMD’s developed for installation around diesel engines, pumps and hydraulic arrangements.

Atmospheric oil mist can be formed either by leakage of pressurized oil pipes or evaporating oil on a hot surface produces what is known as blue smoke.

The tiny droplets of oil created have a low ignition temp. and can be sparked by other sources.

A high-power infrared-beam of light is transmitted across the area to be monitored. If the beam along the line of sight passes through oil mist, smoke, or steam, the beam is scattered and absorbed, thus the receiver signal is reduced.

The receiver unit monitors the translucency, then inverting the signal for the display of opacity. The alarms will activate if the opacity exceeds the preset limits.
